Tax cuts for Green cars
Conservatives plan tax cuts for "green" cars
Millions of environmentally responsible motorists will be rewarded with reduced tax rates if the Conservatives win the forthcoming general election. The first Budget of an incoming Conservative administration would include measures to slash Vehicle Excise Duty levies on low-carbon emitting vehicles, Shadow Environment Secretary Tim Yeo has announced - with owners of the most "green" cars paying no VED at all.
As a result, VED in the Band C (C02 range 166-185) would be cut from £145 to £135; while the Band B (Co2 range 151-165) duty would be reduced from £125 to £110; and Band A (Co2 range 121-150) would be down from £105 to £85. Band AA (CO2 range 101-120) levies would be cut from £75 to £10, while the least polluting Band AAA (Co2 range below 100) would pay no Vehicle Excise Duty compared to £65 today. Mr Yeo said: "Tony Blair's government has waged a war on the motorist.
That policy has failed and emissions from the transport sector are the fastest growing source of pollution."Conservatives will take action. We will send a strong signal to the market and encourage British motorists to make greener choices. The last Conservative Government introduced differentials on fuel duties to make green fuels cheaper. The next Conservative Government will make the least polluting cars cheaper to own."
